The Growl: As teenagers in the digital age, we are constantly bombarded with criticism regarding our social media usage. While there are many risks associated with social media, we believe that the benefits outweigh them. So, Growl staff, how do you think social media contributes to the ThunderRidge community?
Brandon Thompson: Social media helps everyone see all kinds of different perspectives on the adventures and events here at ThunderRidge. ThunderRidge embraces all kinds of people who experience the world differently, and social media allows us to see high school and everything happening in it in a different light.
Cassidy Klein: Definitely. Social media gives us all a unique voice!
Montana Moore: Social media contributes to our school community through the information that is shared, whether it is about emergencies or events. It also connects all the unique people who go to school each and every day.
Liam Schuler: I feel like social media helps connect everyone to create a big TR family!
Grace Schuler: Social media contributes to the ThunderRidge community by keeping people informed about what’s going on within the school. It’s how we can connect with people about TR events.
Ellen Solzman: Yeah, Grace, I agree. The ThunderRidge twitter pages keep us very informed on what’s going on with events.
Sammi Kluber: I think that Social Media keeps students connected outside of class. It’s a good way to build relationships with other classmates and to communicate.
Austin Fleskes: Social media is not just all around us, it has become a part of our beings. We go day in and day out with technology all around us, sometimes distracting and sometimes aiding in our learning. We can keep in contact with anyone we want to, and in doing so we become very close-knit.
Ali Booth: I think social media helps students connect to each other and to the school. It fosters school spirit by informing students about events and dress up days, and it also allows them to communicate with each other outside of class through words and images.
Megan Mitchell: I agree. Social media helps keep us in the loop and lets us share our school spirit!
Jordan Wubbena: Social media has been seen as a source that will destroy human interaction, but seen through many eyes it’s what helps us with making new friends and talking outside of school. It helps some people share opinions that need to be heard and sometimes it can make stars, like Miranda Sings or Nash Grier.
Hannah Truelson: I agree. I feel like we are constantly told that social media is bad, but there are actually a lot of benefits!
Sarah Stockton: Through social media, people can find the support of others. They can also communicate and meet new people they wouldn’t be able to without social media. Most news stories we find through social media.
Jack Lyons: Even if someone isn’t at a certain event, social media lets them know what’s going on at the event as it is happening.
Lindsey Nield: Social media unites the ThunderRidge student body, augmenting our school spirit and fostering a sense of community.
