ThunderRidge softball hasn’t been known for their successes on the diamond. Although, this year seems to be a different story.
Dating back to 2011 when current head coach James Dollaghan took over, the Grizzlies record is 38-45-1. That’s leaving out the record under 2009, 2010 head coach Megan Anastacio of 9-24.
It would be an understatement to say the Grizzlies have had a struggling history. It’s up to this year's squad to change the culture of ThunderRidge Softball.
The team is currently 10-3 and is looking to keep the hot streak going. The Grizzlies are currently ranked 9th in the state, 6th in 5A and 61st in the nation according to maxpreps.com. The only thing standing in their way of dominating the state are the Legend Titans. The Titans hold the coveted best team in the state title but don’t count out the deviously dangerous Grizzlies. The girls faced off against the Titans on Sep. 18 which resulted in a 15-5 loss for the Grizzlies. “We keep working hard and practicing to fix our mistakes. Our motto is start strong, finish stronger. Hopefully that will lead us to our final goal, the state championship.” said sophomore Rachel Bean.
The team is above the national average in almost every possible offensive category. Proving that the offensive capabilities of this team is the pathway to success. The stellar pitching of junior Emily Morris isn’t something to pass over either. Morris currently boasts a 6-1 with a 3.81 ERA through 49.2 innings pitched.
The girls clearly have a special balance of excellent offense and superb pitching to lead them to the promise land. Lets hope this squad can bring another state championship to the rafters of ThunderRidge.
