On Aug. 15 baseball coach Joe White dedicated the training tunnels to three former TRHS students.
Two of the students, Cammy and Kyle DeWolfe were siblings who passed in a car accident in 2006. Cammy was a TR volleyball player and Kyle was a TR baseball player. The other student was Kyle Blakeman, a TR baseball player, who passed away due to cancer in 2007.
“It was important to me to give something to these families who have lost so much,” White said. “Now every kid who works out in our buildings are doing it under these kids’ name. They were just awesome kids who had very high character, and I want kids to know that and know who these great kids are.”
White started the process eight years ago and faced many challenges, from raising the money, getting the permits and getting permission to do it. Once this was all completed, it only took a couple months to build.
“It was an incredible amount of work,” White said.
The hard work all paid off when the families of these young students got to see something truly remarkable come out of such a tragic event. The dedication gave these families some happiness.
“It was great to show them how kids will be using these buildings with their kids name on them, the families were the last ones to leave that day,” White said.
The dedication really opened the eyes of the players to realize that it is more than just a game and what these buildings are all about. The names on the top of the tunnels gives the players a role model to look up and something to motivate them throughout the year. These were such great students and deserve to be recognized for their high character, White says.
White concludes, “It was a great day full of many emotions. It was great to give these families something after all they have been through.”
